We are currently looking for a highly motivated Air Quality consultant to join our growing Air Quality Group to be based in either our Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester offices to take on the new role of Team Leader North.

This new strategic position has been opened within the Air Quality Group with the view of future growth of the air quality offering across the north of England, Wales and Scotland. As part of the Air Quality Group you will work on exciting projects, continue to further develop your network and career. A key part of this Team Leader North role will include the day to day mentoring of fellow team members, project management of key projects that require your level of experience and expertise along with the development of new and existing service offerings. Applying your experience to date in the air quality sector will be critical and a strong element of the role will also include business development – with travel between offices and engagement with clients to develop our offering and explore further opportunities for growth.

What You’ll be Doing

Working within this new strategic team leader role, you will be responsible for a range of elements team performance from project delivery and ensuring high standard of delivery – both technical and in terms of client relations and will be expected to take responsibility for team performance. Taking briefs directly from the Air Quality Group Lead and working under your own initiative in supporting the team to deliver of project works, progressing your own initiatives to further develop the service offering as well as having a strong focus for business development and client relationships throughout projects – from basic to complete, inception to completion.

You will be working not only coordinating the North Team but also working in a coordinated way with the wider Air Quality Group, developing effective relationships to stimulate future business growth, developing new services areas and also with the day to day mentoring of junior staff members. =
You will have ownership of multiple complex activities. You’ll be leading large-scale, complex projects, including managing stakeholders’ expectations, monitoring and reporting metrics, motivating others to work at their best, working out the most productive use of their time and the most effective use of your own. 

You’ll be expected to look out for new and more efficient ways of working and adding value, as well as to help secure new work and build strong client relationships.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing and taking briefs and delivering on air quality projects from inception to completion 
  • Facilitating the North Team to maintain high performance
  • Able to work with and have an appreciation of the integration of other construction professionals’ requirements for the project
  • Experience of dispersion modelling using ADMS software packages – include ADMS Roads and ADMS 5 – with ability to mentor the Air Quality Group to feed this experience in and support with regards reviews
  • Air quality assessment report writing, including for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) experience to enable review and support of wider team
  • Analysis and interpretation of various data sets including road traffic and energy system information to assess projects
  • Supporting staff for onsite air quality monitoring 
  • Indoor Air Quality monitoring works will be progressed – and there will be a need to support the team / group with this
  • Production of design advice documents to support ventilation strategies
  • Effectively utilising and checking work undertaken by others 
  • Effectively managing and motivating colleagues within and outside of the HL team
  • Effectively delivering the required output 
  • Liaising with project team members and local authorities to agree approach and obtain the inputs needed for assessments
  • Reviewing and commenting on information provided by the client and other members of the professional team for design purposes
  • Reviewing and commenting on information provided by contactors/sub-contractors and providing a written report on their compliance with the design and specification
  • Progressing with not only work at planning stage – but also permit works
  • Attending and contributing to design team meetings, client meetings, pre-contract 
  • Business development and growth of the air quality North Team

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate Air Quality Consultants to join our Air Quality Group to be based in either our Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester offices with a consultancy background to take on a newly established Team Leader North role.

Qualifications and Memberships

  • An achieved 2.1 or above in a Degree in engineering, science or maths
  • A postgraduate qualification in environmental sciences, technology, engineering or environmental policy, such as an MSc would be beneficial
  • Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM)

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in an air quality consultancy
  • Strong mathematical / quantitative analysis skills and understanding of physical and chemical processes
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Strong report writing and reviewing skills
  • Interpretation of air quality monitoring data
  • Knowledge of air quality monitoring techniques and strategies 
  • Extensive experience of using air dispersion models, to include ADMS packages 
  • Great organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently
  • A friendly, ambitious and positive individual with a flexible and resilient approach
  • Ability and commitment to effectively deliver to demanding timescales
  • Able to develop effective client and fellow professional relationships at a project level for future business growth
  • Able to positively work as part of a team and motivate junior team members
  • Have an appreciation of fee cost control and resource planning
  • Line management and team leader experience would be beneficial
  • Business development experience would be beneficial 
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a non-adversarial manner
  • Qualified and recognized in industry
  • Commitment to effectively deliver to demanding timescales
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
