A vacancy has become available within Development Management, which forms part of the Governance Directorate for a Contaminated Land Officer based in the Council’s Civic Offices in Epping, Essex.

The post holder will be required to assist in the identification of potential risks from land contamination to residents, the public, controlled waters and the built and natural environment from land contamination on development sites. In addition a key role of the post will be to support the regulation of land contamination risks under the planning regime by advising Council planners on the feasibility of development and the adoption of appropriate conditions, and to assess the suitability of investigation reports, risk assessments, remediation schemes and Verification Reports submitted by developers.   Another important element of the post will be to maintain the relevant computer/manual mapping and database records.

The successful applicant will need to have a science based honours degree, with preferably a good understanding of land contamination and GIS systems, as well as some experience at preferably a senior level in a contaminated land role. Candidates should be able to demonstrate self-motivation, be a good communicator and have a commitment to quality service.
