An exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Officer or experienced Air Quality professional to join our ambitious and progressive Air Quality Team at Kirklees Council.

This Senior Environmental Health Officer role offers a wide range of challenges, and opportunities to make a difference and contribute to the success of our shared service whilst further developing your own knowledge and experience.
The successful candidate will take a lead role in the delivery of Local Air Quality Management functions within the team. Enjoying a range of duties and focusing on, air quality monitoring and reporting, air quality modelling and analysis, applying specialist knowledge to make recommendations on local or regional planning applications, together with playing a key role in supporting the service’s corporate and service priorities.

Achieving all this will require proven experience in the field, enthusiasm, good organisation skills and a strong technical knowledge of pollution control. The role will involve working closely with the public, colleagues and elected members and will require excellent report writing, communication skills.
With a flexible working approach, you will attend local and West Yorkshire regional meetings work with neighbouring authorities, collect, analyse, and interpret Air Quality data and contribute to Air Quality projects. You will also write reports and respond to Councillor enquiries and other requests.

About you:

  • The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced post holder who holds a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health/Environmental Science with 2 years LAQM experience;
  • Proven experience of pollution control measures and achieving compliance through both a supportive as well as a staged approach to enforcement;
  • Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of current legislation and guidance.

In addition to managing your own workload you will lead and support a Technical Officer delivering specialist air quality projects linked to the air quality action plan and air quality monitoring across the borough.
