Looking for speakers for Soapbox Science, Reading

Soapbox Science is a hugely successful public engagement project promoting women working in the sciences and the work that they do.

Building on the success of last year's Soapbox Science - Environmental Special, the IES will be coming to Reading on July 2nd, with some more brilliant women working in environmental sciences.

Get involved
Being a soapbox scientist is great opportunity to increase the visibility of both your sector and work, as well as providing inspiration to and being a role model for budding young female scientists.

Soapbox Science is a hugely successful public engagement project promoting women working in the sciences and this particular event will look to increase the public’s interest and awareness of environmental science.

12 female scientists will be talking to the public Reading City Centre over a period of 3 hours to engage with those who may never have the opportunity to learn about environmental science in an accessible and unintimidating way.

This event will help to raise the profile of women working in environmental fields and the great work that they are doing.

Soapbox Science has proven impact in reaching target audiences, and in the past speakers have reached up to 1,025 people in 3 hours.

We are continuously looking for ways to promote equality amongst our members and the environmental sector. Last year we updated our parental leave guidance to help women (and men) working in the environment, and ran the first ever environmental special Soapbox Science,

This year we are continuing our work in this area with a Women in Environmental Science Steering group to help shape the IES’ work on gender equality.
