Mark Elton

Mark Elton is a Technical Director within Delta Simons' Environmental Planning Team based in London. He holds a BSc in Geography and MSc in Environmental Assessment and Management, and is a Chartered Environmentalist, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Full Member of the IES, joining the organisation in 2002 and achieving chartership in 2004.

Mark has over 25 years' environmental consultancy experience in both the public and private sectors, having worked on major environmental impact assessment (EIA) developments in Tanzania, UAE, Iran, Romania, Bahamas, Qatar, Ireland and across London and the UK. Having worked on a wide range of urban regeneration development projects for residential, transport, retail, commercial, energy and health care clients, his project experience covers all sectors.

In addition to EIA project management skills, he also has technical strengths in sustainable development, landscape assessment, ecology, risk management and health impact assessment. Mark is used to managing large multi-disciplinary environmental teams to provide practical and innovative environmental and sustainable solutions on complex development projects.

Early career highlights include health and safety and risk management work across the UK for local authority and NHS clients. He was also involved in a three-month World Bank project in Tanzania authoring EIA guidelines for the Ministry of Transport and Communications. More recently, Mark has worked with VU.CITY exploring the potential of 3D city and project modelling to be utilised for environmental planning, and he is currently developing the digital and GIS capability within Delta Simons.

Passionate about supporting and mentoring future environmental leaders, Mark is on the advisory board for Solutions for the Planet, supporting the Big Ideas programme in schools across the UK. He is also a member of the Industrial Advisory Group for the University of Exeter Green Consultants programme.

A strong advocate of the IES, Mark has been a CEnv Assessor for the Institution since 2019. He notes: "The IES is an excellent organisation for continued learning and development of its members. One that effectively covers key topic areas of EIA, contamination, air quality and sustainability."
