Mountain International LLC as a Climate & Renewable Energy Specialist ensuring that NGOs and partners comply with USAID Regulation 216, best practices and country-specific environmental laws. Working across various African countries, each with unique needs and diverse cultures, brings both challenges and rewards. While similar challenges are approached differently in each country, this creates exciting opportunities for learning and growth. In addition to his current position, he has experience in international projects, IFC, Performance Standards, Africa Development Bank requirements and similar standards. Over the past 8 years, he has successfully done ESIA projects in mining, energy sector,
agriculture, NGOs, construction and others. During site assessments, he has incorporated the use of drones in aerial surveys as part of the EIA studies, climate risk assessments and renewable energy prefeasibility studies. This improves coverage of site photos, 3D maps and drainage patterns analysis.

Tatenda has significant expertise in grid-tied renewable energy development across Africa. In Zimbabwe, he has contributed to feasibility studies and development efforts for renewable energy initiatives, including utility-scale solar and hydropower projects. He played a key role in advancing the country’s first green hydrogen project which is still in the feasibility phase and its first two wind farms. Additionally, Tatenda was involved in the development of Zimbabwe’s first hybrid power generation plant, integrating solar, green hydrogen, and wind energy to ensure consistent grid power. As part of this project, he collaborated with a regional team to successfully secure funding from EEP Arica through a competitive application and pitch process. Tatenda holds a BSc Hons in Applied Environmental Science and is pursuing an MSc. This is driven by his desire to see the sustainable adoption of clean energy to tackle climate and development-related issues such as poor water security and global warming. Following the advice of a mentor who was a Chartered Environmentalist, Tatenda joined the IES after realising the importance of professional development, networking and being guided
by a code of conduct.
