About the EPIC AGM & Conference

The Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) is holding its annual AGM & Conference on the 13th October.

This full day free event for EPIC members will contain presentations from the EPIC Committee on community activities, as well as the opportunity to hear from expert speakers and engage in dialogue on topical challenges for local authority officers and others delivering environmental policy on the ground.

What is on the agenda?

Making planning deliver for the environment, RTPI CEO Victoria Hills
The day's theme is Making planning deliver for the environment. The day will start with a keynote speech from outgoing RTPI CEO Victoria Hills, as well as expert talks looking at how planning can deliver for key environmental areas issues such as air quality, contaminated land, noise pollution and nature recovery.

Update from EPIC Chair Ruth Calderwood
Hear an update on EPIC activities from Chair Ruth Calderwood, including an announcement of the new EPIC Committee members, and have your say in EPIC's work plan for next year.

A Local Authority's Guide to Environmental Implementation
Be there for the launch of EPIC's flagship new guidance: A Local Authority's Guide to Environmental Implementation.

Legal snapshot: Carol Day, Leigh Day
Carol Day has worked in the environmental sector for over 30 years, with NGOs including the Wildlife Trusts and WWF UK. Since 2013, she has worked as a senior environmental solicitor at Leigh Day, specialising in cases concerning biodiversity, climate change, pollution and planning. She also works part time on the Aarhus Convention (and access to justice in particular) for the RSPB. In this capacity she co-Chairs the Legal Strategy Group of Wildlife & Countryside Link, a coalition of some 90 environmental organisations. She is also Vice-Chair of the Environmental Law Foundation.

The full agenda will be released before the event.

Those registered will be able to choose the activities that are most relevant to them. There will be time to break for lunch, and a series of shorter breaks throughout the day.

The AGM & Conference is open only to EPIC members.

What is EPIC?

The Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) at the IES brings together local authority officers and other environmental professionals delivering environmental protection, climate action and nature recovery on the ground. The community has a unique focus on implementation of environmental policy, and works together to understand delivery challenges, share good practice and advocate for implementation-minded policy.
