Policy

Promoting science-informed environmental policy

IES Policy Icon

Driving change, delivering solutions

(Public) policy covers the laws, actions, and decisions of government, as well as the rules and regulations which govern society. Policy professionals support the design, delivery, and implementation of policy, or work with the environment sector to respond to policy developments.

Within the IES, we see the role of our members as being part of an evidence-informed approach to policy making that recognises the importance of holistic policy design and effective implementation, informed by interdisciplinary perspectives and focused on solutions.

Science-informed environmental policy

IES members working in policy are at the forefront of uniting science and policy to solve environmental challenges. Our policy team gives members a voice in the conversations that make a difference, while our Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) leads the sector on delivering effective and ambitious policy in practice.

Engaging our members in the transition to a sustainable society, we offer policy training and keep them updated on the latest developments through our policy and legislation round-up: Essential Environment. The service includes a free bulletin for IES professional members, as well as detailed analysis of the latest policy developments and what they mean for professionals.
