Ecology and Conservation
Integrated approaches to restoring biodiversity
Halting and reversing biodiversity loss
Ecologists and conservation professionals work on the relations between living things and their physical environments, supporting the conservation and restoration of terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems.
Within the IES, ecologists and conservation professionals are at the forefront of responding to the triple crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change, and environmental pollution, embracing transformative approaches that work alongside natural systems.
IES conservation professionals are engaged in the transformation to a sustainable society that works for people and the natural world, from ecologists collecting data in the field or consultants providing expert advice to clients, to policymakers or NGO advocating for the inherent value of nature.
An integrated approach
Beyond CPD, webinars, and Chartership, ecologists and conservation professionals within the IES become part of our interdisciplinary network, connecting them to environmental professionals working in water, climate change, and other disciplines with immediate relevance to ecology. Our network and communities give members a collective voice on nature in critical conversations, such as through our Environmental Policy Implementation Community’s leading work on Biodiversity Net Gain and Local Nature Recovery Strategies.
