Heritage & Archaelogy
Integrating heritage into environmental frameworks
Protecting our cultural heritage
Heritage and archaeology professionals are those who study and work to protect, manage, and promote the cultural and historic aspects of landscapes and built environments. It is a broad discipline that draws together environmental specialists from a significant range of backgrounds and intersects with those working in planning, ecology and impact assessment.
Within the IES, heritage and archaeology professionals work closely with other environmental professionals to assess and reduce the impacts of development on sites of historical, cultural or ecological significance. They promote sustainable practice in managing our heritage assets, for the benefit of people and nature.
Part of the environmental science family
Heritage and archaeology professionals are responsible for working closely with other disciplines to support the sustainable management and conservation of our cultural heritage. Being part of the IES provides an opportunity to connect with environmental professionals across disciplines, including those working in impact assessment, the built environment and planning, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
