Developing science-based solutions to water challenges
Systems approach to water challenges
Water professionals are responsible for understanding, monitoring and managing our water resources and water environment. This includes ensuring water quality for human and environmental health, managing and treating wastewater, protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems, and supporting water security and flood resilience.
Within the IES, we see the role of our members as ensuring a sustainable future for our water resources by championing a systems approach to the challenges of delivering water quality, water supply and healthy freshwater ecosystems.
Water in the IES family
The IES champions a systems approach to ensure that water solutions are holistic and multifunctional. The Foundation for Water Research (FWR) Community provides guidance and strategic thought leadership for the IES’s water activities and collaborates with the wider IES family on issues related to land, air and policy implementation.
The FWR is an independent community of professionals from across the water sector and related scientific specialisms. The community comes together for deliberative discussion to support the development of interdisciplinary solutions to water challenges.
